Every material is selected according to the brief, the function of the piece, and the space it will live in.
From solid Melunak and Merbau to natural lacquer, stone tops, veneers, laminates, upholstery fabrics, leather, faux leather, foam, and cushioning, each material is considered for its structure, surface character, maintenance needs, ageing quality, and suitability for long-term use.
Solid timber remains central to our bespoke and custom furniture work.
We commonly work with Melunak and Merbau, selected according to the scale, function, finish, and intended use of each piece.
01 / SOLID TIMBER.
MELUNAK.
Lighter. Workable. Practical.
A light to medium-brown hardwood with a fine, even grain. Ideal for interior built-ins, cabinetry, panels, and moderate-use furniture.

MERBAU.
Dense. Hard. Durable.
A deeper reddish-brown hardwood with a stronger, more expressive grain. Ideal for high-wear surfaces, exposed applications, and heavy-use furniture.

Natural lacquer is applied to enhance timber grain while adding a protective finish for daily use.
Applied by hand, it allows the surface to retain natural warmth while giving the piece a more finished and durable character.

MELUNAK.
MERBAU .
*Finish Reference: From left — D1–D5 indicate lacquer layers, from lightest to deepest finish.
**Note: Wood colour and grain may vary naturally depending on the timber cut, lacquer application, lighting, and age of the piece.
Glass, granite, and marble tops may be used where the piece requires additional surface protection, durability, contrast, or function.
02-B / SURFACES — GLASS / GRANITE / MARBLE TOPS.
GLASS.
Clear. Light. Protective.
Protects the timber surface while keeping the wood grain visible.
It is easy to clean and visually lighter than stone, but may show fingerprints, scratches, or edge chips depending on thickness, handling, and daily use.
GRANITE.
Durable. Dense. Naturally Patterned.
Dense and hard-wearing stone surface, suited for heavier daily use. More resistant to heat, scratches, stains, and impact than marble.
MARBLE.
Refined. Cool. Naturally Veined.
Elegant natural stone with distinctive veining. Strong, but more porous and more sensitive than granite, requiring greater care against staining, scratching, and acidic spills.
For cabinetry and built-ins, blockboard, veneer, and laminate each serve a different role and are selected according to the required structure, surface finish, maintenance needs, budget, and daily use.
03 / CABINETRY MATERIALS — BLOCKBOARD / VENEER / LAMINATE.
BLOCKBOARD.
Structural. Stable. Practical.
Used as a core material for cabinet doors, shelves, and built-in structures. It provides strength and stability for larger panels, especially where the work needs to hold its form through daily use.
VENEER.
Natural. Refined. Timber Faced.
A thin layer of real timber applied over a stable core such as blockboard, plywood, or MDF. It gives cabinetry the warmth and grain character of wood while keeping the structure more controlled than solid timber panels.

LAMINATE.
Durable. Versatile. Easy-Care.
A manufactured decorative sheet applied over a stable core. It is selected for consistency, durability, easy maintenance, and a wider range of colours, textures, and patterns for everyday cabinetry use.

For reupholstery, each material — fabric, leather, faux leather, foam, and cushioning — is selected according to comfort, durability, maintenance, setting, and the condition of the original frame.
04 / UPHOLSTERY MATERIALS — FABRIC / LEATHER / FAUX LEATHER / FOAM & CUSHIONING.
INDOOR FABRIC.
Soft. Textural. Colour-Led.
Chosen for their comfort, texture, pet-friendliness and colour, influencing the overall feel of a space. Options range from neutral tones to bold colours and patterns, aligning with the design theme. Ideal for lounge chairs, dining chairs, sofas, and other upholstered pieces in indoor environments.
OUTDOOR FABRIC.
Resilient. Exposure-Ready.
Suitable for semi-outdoor or high-exposure areas where durability, fading resistance, moisture control, and maintenance are key. Ideal for covered patios, café seating, and hospitality use, these materials provide strong performance while maintaining colour and texture.
GENUINE LEATHER.
Natural. Unique. Durable.
Selected for its authentic grain and softness, this material develops character over time. It provides a richer feel than faux leather but needs regular care to maintain its look. Ideal for statement chairs, lounge seating, executive seating and furniture where aging adds to the charm.
FAUX LEATHER.
Consistent. Easy-Care. Practical.
Faux leather, or leatherette, offers a leather-like appearance with easy maintenance and a consistent look. It is ideal for items needing simple cleaning, daily-use durability, and visual consistency, making it perfect for dining chairs, commercial seating, café furniture, and higher-contact upholstered pieces.
FOAM & CUSHIONING.
Supportive. Comfortable.
Selected separately according to firmness, thickness, comfort, and the way the furniture will be used. They support the structure beneath the upholstery surface and help restore seat comfort, posture, and long-term usability.
